Immigrate To Denmark and Live And Work

The trend of establishing career overseas has become one of the popular choices in India. Europe countries have been one of the most preferred destinations as they offer a balanced work and family life. These days Denmark has been one of the most sought countries as it has immigration system based on points: Danish Green Card (very similar to United Kingdom) which attracts skilled workers across globe along with a positive list scheme. There is also a pay limit scheme.

There are two ways in which one can immigrate to Denmark for a period of three years. One is obtaining a Danish Green Card and the other is positive list.

In India also, these days an inclination have been seen towards   live and work.  Denmark is an active member of European Union. Plenty of opportunities are available for skilled work to work and live in Denmark. Work permits can be obtained for a list of occupation which is also called Positive list.

The positive list scheme

Under this scheme residence and work visa can be obtained for a period of three years with an extension limit of four years.  The list mentions the jobs in which there is a shortage of skilled workers. One needs to meet the Danish standards apart from having employment letter for applying under this category. For certain profession Danish authorization letter may also be required.

The scheme has a long list of profession. The list encompasses various fields of work such as:

  • Construction
  • IT & telecommunication
  • Management
  • Hotel, Restaurant, Kitchen, Canteen
  • Academic work ( this list includes professional services such as:  doctors, engineers, lawyers and other professional occupations).
  • Educational, Social and Religious Occupations
  • Sales, Purchases and Marketing
  • Health, Healthcare and Personal Care
  • Freight Forwarding, Postal Services, Storage and Engine Operation
  • Education and tuition
The extension is still possible even if the job one is working is no longer in the list of scheme. The spouse of the applicant is also eligible to Immigrate and work and live in Denmark when the applicant has received the visa. Children under the age of 18 years are also eligible to stay with their family.

The Danish Green Card point based system

Under this one needs to obtain score sufficient points. These points can be obtained on the basis of criteria such as language skills, age, work experience, and education. A residence permit up to 18 months can be obtained if one is able to score 100 points. One is also entitled to bring immediate family along. Along with these 100 points one needs to have a health insurance and ample proof that he/she is able to meet the family needs for the specified period of time.

The points are scored under five heads:
  • Education: the maximum number of points one can score under this category is 105. All academic documents go through assessment by CIRIUS, a body under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation. The option to obtain bonus point is also applicable.
  • Language Skills: the maximum one can score under this field is 30. The language skills include knowledge of Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, English or German.
  • Work Experience: the maximum point one can get is 15 points.
  • Adaptability: this is applicable if one has worked/studied in the European Union/European Economic Area. The maximum point is 15.
  • Age. The maximum point is 15
Pay limit scheme:

If one has a Danish employment of more than DKK 375,000 (approximately USD 80,000), one is also eligible for a work and residence permit in Denmark under the Pay Limit scheme.
