Why IELTS Is Important?

Introduced in 1989 International English Language Test System or (IELTS) is an international language proficiency test for those whose first language is not English and wish to either work or study in a English speaking country, as a temporary or a permanent resident. It is a joint initiative of the British Council, IDP, IELTS Australia, and Cambridge English Language Assessment.

Why IELTS Is Important?

Many applicants wonder why it is important to appear for IELTS test. It is better to say it measures your English language skills, i.e., reading, writing, listening and speaking and capability to use it.

There are two types of IELTS and they are:
  1. The general IELTS, and
  2. The Academic IELTS
The former is for those who wish to relocate to English speaking country for training or work reason, whereas the latter is ideal for those who wish to study in an English speaking nation.

There is very slight difference between the two above types and that is the two sections writing and reading are complexly different where as speaking and listening are same. For General IELTS, you will be asked questions in context with daily subjects while for Academic IELTS more emphasis is on analytical skills.

The complete IELTS test consists of 2 hours and 44 minutes the division is as follow:
  • Reading:- 01 hour
  • Writing:- 01 hour 
  • Speaking:- 11 to 14 minutes, and
  • Listening:- half hour plus 10 minutes tape transfer time
It is important to know that the exam does not have a fail format instead it has band score from 1 to 9. While 1 is the lowest and 9 is the highest. Generally most of the countries ask for 6.5 band which is as per the European Common Reference Framework for Languages equivalent to B2 level (intermediate advanced.

Once you have appeared for the exam, result will be declared in 13 days. Further note: the score band will be valid only for two years, and if your score is low, you can appear for the exam at any time of the year.
